MLBPA Vows to Fight Salary Cap

MLBPA interim executive director Bruce vowed Monday to fight MLB's proposed salary cap, saying the union has 'never been broken and never will be' as negotiations continue with a lockout threat.

MLB proposed a salary cap last week, with a $245.3 million spending limit for 2027 and a $171.2 million floor. The Dodgers' $415.2 million payroll this year is well above the proposed cap. Meyer emphasized that baseball players are the only major sport without a salary cap due to their unity. 'Our players have always been the most unified and that's going to continue,' Meyer said during an online news conference. sport-tr.bet

Baseball has experienced nine work stoppages since 1972, though regular-season games haven't been lost since the 1994-95 strike. No next bargaining session has been scheduled. The union has proposed expanded free agency, higher salary arbitration rights, and almost doubling the major league minimum salary.
