RIP Jayden Adams: Inquest into ‘suicide’ of Bafana star
The police have launched an inquest into the death of Bafana Bafana player Jayden Adams, who allegedly took his own life via suicide, on Saturday, 11 July. livefromquarantine.club
The 25-year-old’s body was discovered at his Cape Town home.
The tragedy comes weeks after the young star returned from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and days after the death of his grandmother.
Adams leaves behind a partner, Aqueelah, and a young daughter.
POLICE OPEN INQUEST INTO JAYDEN ADAMS DEATH
Sunday World broke the news of the death of Jayden Adams after he took his life via suicide.
The Bafana Bafana and Sundowns player was found dead at his home in Cape Town on Saturday morning.
Captain FC van Wyk stated that police had opened an inquest into the circumstances surrounding his death.
He said: “Cape Town Central police station registered an inquest for investigation following the discovery of the body of a 25-year-old male at a premises in Military Road, Scotscheskloof.
“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation.”
MOURNING HIS GRANDMOTHER AND BEST FRIEND
In recent weeks, Jayden Adams had been mourning the death of his grandmother, Marianna Adams, who died on the eve of the team’s group stage match against Czechia.
Adams started the match, which took place at the Atlanta Stadium in the US.
He remained on international duty for the rest of South Africa’s participation in the tournament.
Jayden Adams had also been mourning the death of his best friend and former Stellenbosch FC teammate, Oshwin Andries, who was brutally stabbed to death in 2023.
After winning the Betway Premiership championship last year under his new club – Mamelodi Sundowns – Adams said in a post-match interview: “Everything that I win is dedicated to him, Oswin Andries. This one goes to him, his family, my family, friends, and everyone back in Cape Town.”
As with Adams, mystery surrounds the circumstances of Andries’ death.
Sloppy Boks overpower brave Scots
Four second-half tries and the boot of Handré Pollard secured a hard-fought win for the Springboks in the Nations Championship against Scotland at Loftus on Saturday.
Flyhalf Pollard converted five of the Boks’ six tries as the hosts held off a spirited Scottish outfit to win 42-28 in Pretoria, having been locked at 14-14 at the break.
Saturday’s clash also marked a record 55th Test in charge for Bok head coach Rassie Erasmus, who had to make a late change before kick-off with Canan Moodie ruled out through injury and Ethan Hooker drafted in on the left wing.

The visitors set the early tone, dominating possession and holding their own in the aerial exchanges. Bok scrumhalf Embrose Papier then marked his first Test since 2018 with a try, pouncing from the back of a ruck to open the scoring.

No 8 Evan Roos barged over soon after for his first try in the green and gold, the hosts racing to a 14-0 lead.
Scotland hit back through flank Matt Fagerson and fullback Kyle Rowe, likely leaving Erasmus frustrated at the interval by a defensive effort that included 22 missed tackles, and almost double that tally by the final whistle.
Replacement Ben-Jason Dixon was sin-binned soon after the restart for illegal head contact on lock Scott Cummings at the breakdown.
The Boks pushed on regardless, loose forward Elrigh Louw and centre Damian Willemse crossing the whitewash, before a Zach Porthen touchdown extended the lead further.
Scotland struck through Josh Bayliss and Ben White to secure a four-try bonus point of their own, but Jesse Kriel’s late try sealed the contest for the South Africans.

The win followed the Boks’ victory over England in their Nations Championship opener last week. The world champions now turn to Kings Park, where they will host Wales next Saturday, while Scotland return home to face Fiji at Murrayfield.
Erasmus, though, will be sweating the fitness of lock Cobus Wiese, who was subbed on the 32-minute mark on Saturday with a suspected rib injury. Utility forward Vincent Tshituka, too, will be a concern after a late HIA.

Gayton McKenzie reacts to Jayden Adams’ death: ‘Profound shock and a heavy heart’
Midfielder Jayden Adams, who represented South Africa at the ongoing FIFA World Cup, died on Saturday at the age of 25.
“It is with profound shock and a heavy heart that I have learnt of the passing of Jayden Adams,” Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie said in a statement.
“South African football has lost one of its brightest young talents.”
The minister did not disclose a cause of death.
SAPS opened an investigation
Police said they had opened an investigation after the body of a 25-year-old man was found at a house in Schotschekloof in Bo-Kaap on Saturday morning.
“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation,” Western Cape police spokesperson FC van Wyk told AFP.

Adams played in all three of South Africa’s group-stage matches at FIFA World Cup 2026, but did not feature in the knockout defeat by Canada.
Lost his grandmother
Born in Cape Town, he began his professional career with Stellenbosch FC before joining CAF Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2025.
His death comes less than a month after the passing of his grandmother, on the eve of South Africa’s Group A match against Czechia at Atlanta Stadium.
“Jayden started in the match against Czechia and gave his all while carrying the burden of losing his grandmother,” the South African Football Association said at the time.
