OFFICIAL: Pyramids Appoint Rulani Mokwena After Jurcic Exit

Pyramids FC have appointed South African coach Rulani Mokwena as their new head coach, as Krunoslav Jurcic ends his tenure in Cairo. afrikasportnews.co.za

Mokwena will take charge for the 2026/27 season after a brief spell with Libyan club Al Ittihad Tripoli. The 39-year-old signed a one-year contract with an option for a one-season extension.

Pyramids had tracked Mokwena for two years before completing the appointment, according to reports.

Mokwena previously managed Mamelodi Sundowns, Wydad Casablanca, and MC Alger. He won successive South African league titles and the 2023 African Football League with Sundowns.

The South African also guided MC Alger to the Algerian Super Cup. He left the club in March while they led the domestic league.

Pyramids thanked Jurcic and his staff following the end of their contracts. The Croatian coach joined the club in February 2024.

Jurcic managed the Cairo side in 132 matches across all competitions. He recorded 89 wins, 25 draws, and 18 defeats during his tenure.

His first trophy came in the 2023/24 Egypt Cup after Pyramids defeated ZED 1-0 to secure the first major title in their history.

The Croatian then led Pyramids to their maiden CAF Champions League crown in June 2025. His side beat Mamelodi Sundowns 3-2 on aggregate in the final, becoming Egypt’s fourth African champion.

Pyramids later added the CAF Super Cup and FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup. They beat Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli 3-1 to win the latter competition.

Jurcic completed his five-trophy spell with another Egypt Cup in May. Pyramids defeated ZED 2-1 in the final to lift the trophy for a second time.

أكد سعادة الشيخ سعود بن عبدالرحمن بن حسن آل ثاني، رئيس نادي الوكرة، أن دولة قطر فقدت برحيل صاحب السمو الأمير الوالد الشيخ حمد بن خليفة آل ثاني، رحمه الله، واحداً من أعظم القادة الذين أنجبتهم المنطقة، مشيراً إلى أن بصماته ستظل حاضرة في كل إنجاز تشهده الدولة.
وأوضح أن الأمير الوالد كان صاحب رؤية بعيدة المدى، استطاع أن يحول الطموحات إلى واقع، وأن يؤسس لدولة حديثة تمتلك مؤسسات قوية، واقتصاداً متيناً، وحضوراً دولياً مؤثراً.

الرياضة من ركائز التنمية
وقال إن الأمير الوالد آمن بأن الرياضة ليست ترفاً، وإنما وسيلة لبناء الإنسان وتعزيز مكانة الوطن، ولذلك أولى هذا القطاع اهتماماً استثنائياً، فشهدت قطر طفرة كبيرة في المنشآت الرياضية، واستضافة البطولات العالمية، وتطوير الأندية والاتحادات الرياضية.
وأضاف أن ما حققته قطر من نجاحات رياضية عالمية جاء نتيجة تخطيط طويل ورؤية واضحة، جعلت الدولة واحدة من أبرز العواصم الرياضية في العالم.

إرث لا ينقطع
وأشار إلى أن أعظم ما يميز الأمير الوالد هو الإرث الوطني الذي تركه للأجيال، والذي ما زالت ثماره تتواصل حتى اليوم، مؤكداً أن القيادة الحكيمة لحضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى تواصل البناء على تلك الأسس الراسخة، بما يعزز مكانة قطر وريادتها.
واختتم الشيخ سعود تصريحه بالدعاء إلى الله تعالى أن يتغمد الأمير الوالد بواسع رحمته، وأن يسكنه فسيح جناته، وأن يحفظ دولة قطر وقيادتها وشعبها الوفي.

Zamalek have reportedly set the terms for a new football company with an unnamed Gulf investor holding 60%, leaving the club with 40%.

The investor would also provide a fixed annual football budget of EGP 600 million. That money would cover the first team and sporting director’s requirements.

The company would take direct control of Zamalek’s entire youth sector, extending its responsibilities beyond managing the senior team.

Under the reported agreement, Zamalek would collect just 40% of any profits.

However, Zamalek have not yet named the investor. The reported terms remain subject to approval from the club’s general assembly and the relevant administrative authorities.

The board previously settled on the proposed 60-40 division, according to reports. Moreover, the club asked the Ministry of Youth and Sports to determine the date and format of the required meeting.

The proposal has divided the board and prompted opposition from several club members. Treasurer Hossam El-Mandouh and board member Ahmed Soliman are among those seeking a larger Zamalek stake.

Critics argue that the club should retain at least 51%. They fear the proposed structure would give outside investors effective control over Zamalek’s football operations.

The project comes as Zamalek seek solutions to a prolonged financial crisis.

Chairman Hussein Labib previously said that the club’s total financial obligations had approached EGP 3 billion. He also estimated an annual gap of between EGP 800 million and EGP 900 million.

Labib said Zamalek needed around EGP 300 million to resolve their transfer registration restrictions. He listed the football company among the board’s proposed financial solutions.

The Zamalek plan follows two state-backed football partnerships announced earlier this week.

The move comes days after the Sports Ministry oversaw memoranda pairing ENPPI with Al-Sharqia and Petrojet with Suez. The agreements aim to create companies that manage, operate, and develop the clubs’ football activities.

ENPPI and Petrojet will each hold 51% of their respective companies. Al-Sharqia and Suez will retain 49%.

Those agreements do not transfer ownership of the wider social clubs. However, they place football management under company-controlled entities.

Zamalek’s proposal would extend that model to one of Egypt’s largest member-run clubs if members and authorities approve it.
