Andreeva wins first Grand Slam title at French Open

Paris, France: Mirra Andreeva won her first Grand Slam title on Saturday by downing Polish qualifier Maja Chwalinska in straight sets in the French Open final. h-doctor.club

The 19-year-old Russian beat Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 to become the youngest Roland Garros women's singles champion since Monica Seles, then aged 18, won her third straight title in Paris in 1992.

With her first-ever major crown, Andreeva also became the first player, man or woman, born after 2005 to win a Grand Slam.

The Coupe Suzanne Lenglen will now take centre spot in Andreeva's burgeoning trophy cabinet, which already features two WTA 1000 titles.

Defeat at the final hurdle brought to an end an astonishing run which started in qualifying for Chwalinska, who won nine matches in the French capital to become the first qualifier to reach the final in the Open era.

Chwalinska displayed some early nerves as she dumped two serves straight into the net on the very first point of the match, with Andreeva finally forcing a break at the end of a seven-minute long opening game.

But the Pole broke back instantly as Andreeva overcooked a backhand down the line following a series of looping defensive shots coming from both sides of the court at 30-40.

Both players seemed to be struggling with the occasion, a situation not helped by blustery conditions on centre court, as two more consecutive breaks came about.

Chwalinska then put an end to that as she held to love, bringing the crowd to their feet as she showed the variety of her shot selection by drawing Andreeva to the net with a drop shot before lobbing her with a perfectly weighted volley en route to taking a 3-2 lead.

But Andreeva showed she was willing to go toe-to-toe with her opponent as she waited patiently to strike with a winner up the line before slamming down an ace to earn her first hold of the match.

The Russian dug in and moved into the ascendancy as she pounced on a Chwalinska service game that was particularly impacted by the wind as several court-side spectators saw their straw hats fly off in the breeze.

She then reeled off a comfortable hold before powering to a one-set lead, breaking Chwalinska again with a crosscourt backhand winner.

Andreeva kept on a roll as Chwalinska compiled errors to go behind early in the second frame.

Two Andreeva errors and an unplayable drop shot gave the Pole the chance to instantly wipe out that advantage but the teen showed serious mettle to pull off a battling hold and at 3-0 the writing looked on the wall for Chwalinska.

Andreeva then rattled through the next two games to move to the brink.

But Chwalinska refused to give in and held to make it 5-1, before breaking Andreeva as she served for the match.

However, the new world number six was not to be denied as she pounced in the very next game to claim the biggest trophy so far of her fledgling career.

A backhand winner sending her crumpling to her knees as she surpassed her coach Conchita Martinez's 2000 runner-up finish at Roland Garros.

Monaco: Championship leading teenager Kimi Antonelli bounced back to top the times for Mercedes ahead of both Ferraris in Saturday's final free practice ahead of qualifying at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The 19-year-old Italian, who had endured a torrid race last year and appeared off the pace in Friday's sessions, clocked a fastest lap in one minute and 12.720 seconds to outpace local hero Charles Leclerc by 0.327 seconds.

Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton was third just 0.004sec adrift of his Ferrari team-mate, but unable to repeat his dominant speed from Friday when he finished fastest overall.

George Russell, in the second Mercedes, was fourth, seven-tenths off his team-mate's pace, ahead of four-time champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull.

Oscar Piastri was sixth for McLaren ahead of Audi's Gabriel Bortoleto, Isack Hadjar's Red Bull and world champion Lando Norris in the second McLaren. Nico Hulkeberg was 10th in the second Audi.

The session, run in perfect dry conditions, was interrupted by a late red flag after Oliver Bearman crashed in his Haas on the run up to Casino Square. He was unhurt.

Antonelli, winner of an unprecedented four consecutive races including his maiden win, is seeking to become the first Italian to win five races in succession since Alberto Ascari with Ferrari in 1952.

Hamilton, fastest on Friday, was the first man out as the session began in bright sunshine in the principality, his Ferrari glistening as much as his unique spangly pink helmet while close friend Kim Kardashian distracted photographers on entry to the paddock.

McLaren, the most successful team at Monaco and celebrating their 60th anniversary and 1000th race, had broken the overnight curfew regulations to make changes of various electrical items following Norris's problems in FP2.

Doha, Qatar: The opening round of the Sport For All Track Series 2026 concluded successfully at the Aspire Indoor Running Track, organized by the Qatar Sports For All Federation under the umbrella of the Ministry of Sports and Youth.

The event attracted strong participation, with more than 300 male and female competitors from various age groups, including children, adults, and senior citizens.

The competition was structured across several timed categories to accommodate participants of different ages.

Adult runners aged 17 and above competed in races lasting between 15 and 30 minutes, while juniors aged 7 to 17 took part in a 10-minute race.

Children aged 3 to 6 participated in a five-minute event.

The format was designed to maximize participation by allowing competitors to complete as many laps as possible within the allotted time, ensuring fair opportunities for all entrants.

The series consists of four races, all scheduled to take place during June at the Aspire Indoor Track. The events provide participants with a unique sporting experience in a climate-controlled environment, offering ideal conditions for running during the summer season.

Executive Director of the Qatar Sports For All Federation, Abdullah Al Dosari said that the inaugural edition of the Sport For All Track Series has made a strong and promising start, characterized by excitement and competitive spirit.

He highlighted the significant turnout of families, noting that it reflects growing public awareness of the importance of running and its role in promoting health and active lifestyles.

Al Dosari emphasized that the federation places particular importance on summer sporting events that bring families together and encourage regular participation in physical activity.

He also noted that registration remains open for the remaining rounds of the series through the Sport For All mobile application.

The initiative offers participants access to suitable indoor venues and encourages year-round engagement in running events as part of the federation’s ongoing efforts to promote sports culture and increase participation in physical and recreational activities.

The four-race Aspire Indoor Track Series forms part of the Qatar Sports For All Federation’s annual calendar of events and championships. The federation organizes dozens of races and community-based sports initiatives throughout the year, aimed at engaging people of all ages.

In total, more than 850 sports and community events are scheduled for the current year, in line with the vision and strategic plans of the Ministry of Sports and Youth to strengthen the culture of physical activity and establish sport as a way of life for the widest possible segment of society.

ثلاثة وثلاثون عاماً مرّت على تنظيم الولايات المتحدة لبطولة كأس العالم وتحديدا عام 1994، ليقرّر الفيفا مجددا أن تُقام بطولة كأس العالم 2026 في الفترة من 11 يونيو الجاري وحتى 19 من يوليو المقبل ، وتستضيفها بشكل مشترك 16مدينة في ثلاثة بلدان في أمريكا الشمالية، هي كندا والمكسيك والولايات المتحدة. لكن هذه المرة، ثمة رهان تنظيمي غير مسبوق: 48 منتخباً، 104 مباريات، موزّعة على 16 مدينة في ثلاث دول قارية شاسعة.

ما الذي تغيّر بين النسخة التسعينية والنسخة الحالية ؟

حين أعلن الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم عام 1988 أن الولايات المتحدة ستكون مضيفةً لمونديال 1994، لم يصفّق كثيرون. كان الاعتراض صريحاً وبسيطاً: كيف تُمنح أكبر احتفالية كروية في العالم لدولة لا تُدرج كرة القدم حتى في قائمة رياضاتها الخمس الأولى؟ دولةٌ ييشاهد فيها الطفل منذ صغره كرة القدم الأمريكية وكرة السلة والبيسبول والهوكي ولايكاد يسمع بالكرة المستديرة وإن سمع بها من الأساس فيسميها سُوكر بلهجة أمريكية توحي أن الاسم نفسه يحمل شيئاً من الاستهانة أوعدم الاكتراث باللعبة.

ما حدث في صيف 1994 أسكت الجميع،،

تحطّم الرقم القياسي لعدد الجمهور في جميع اللقاءات، وبلغ 3 ملايين و 587 ألفا و538 متفرجاً، متجاوزاً الرقم القياسي للبطولة الأسبق بأكثر من مليون مشاهد، وبلغ متوسط الحضور في المباراة الواحدة آنذاك 68 ألفاً و 991 متفرجاً.

وحتى اليوم، ما تزال بطولة 1994 الأكثر حضوراً جماهيرياً في تاريخ كأس العالم، ويستمر الإقبال الجماهيري ليشهد نهائي 1994 بين البرازيل وإيطاليا حضور 94 ألفاً و 194 مشجعاً في ملعب روز بول بلوس أنجلوس، وهو رقم لم يُكسر في أي نهائي كأس عالم لعقود بعده وكأن الولايات المتحدة تقول للعالم: لا نحبّ لعبتكم ، لكننا مستعدون للاحتفال.

حين قامت الولايات المتحدة باستضافة كأس العالم في التسعينيات كانت البطولة في دولة واحدة، وتسعة ملاعب، و 32 منتخباً، و 64 مباراة، المشجع يقوم بشراء تذكرة ويحجز فندقاً، وينتهى الأمر، أما في 2026 فالمشجع الذي يريد متابعة البطولة من البداية للنهاية قد يحتاج إلى ثلاث تأشيرات مختلفة، أمريكية وكندية ومكسيكية، وتذاكر طيران بين مدن تفصل بينها آلاف الكيلومترات.

ويرى مراقبون أن التشتت الجغرافي بين الدول الثلاث سيجعل من تجربة المشجعين واللاعبين على حد سواء رحلةً شاقة ومكلفة

وهو ما أقرّ به رئيس الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم جياني إنفانتينو في تصريح سابق بقوله :التحديات ستكون في المنظومة اللوجستية بأكملها. نحن أمام قارة ضخمة، ثلاث دول كبيرة ، المسافات، والتوقيت الزمني مختلفان، والتباين المناخي أيضاً فالبطولة تتنقل من الارتفاع الشاهق في المكسيك إلى مستوى سطح البحر في أجزاء أخرى.

مما دعا الفيفا أن تقوم بتوزيع المنتخبات في تجمعات جغرافية متنوعة خلال الدور الأول للحدّ من وطأة التنقل على اللاعبين.

ولعلّ المفارقة الأعمق في هذه البطولة مقارنةً بنسخة التسعينيات ليست في جغرافيا المكان المُعاد تدويره، بل في اختلاف السياق والظروف الجيوسياسية التي تشهدها الولايات المتحدة اليوم،،

حين استضافت أمريكا كأس العالم لأول مرة عام 1994، كانت بلداً يفتح ذراعيه للعالم، يدعو الجميع ليُثبت أن الحفلة ستكون في أبهى صورها، أما اليوم، فتستضيف أمريكا الكأس ذاته في ظل إدارة تشدّد على الحدود وتُعيد رسم خريطة الترحيب.

وقد تجلّى ذلك بوضوح حين كشف تقرير منظمة العفو الدولية أن مشجعين من خمس دول باتوا مُلزَمين بإيداع ما يصل إلى خمسة عشر ألف دولار ضماناً مالياً للحصول على تأشيرة الدخول، فيما كان الفيفا يضغط في الكواليس لانتزاع إعفاءات استثنائية. تراجعت الإدارة لاحقاً عن الشرط لمن يحملون تذاكر مباريات، لكن الأثر كان قد وقع — وبات السؤال الأصعب ليس عن الكفالة المالية، بل عمّن يجرؤ أصلاً على الحجز.

واشنطن لا تُخفي أنها ترى في هذه البطولة منصة غير مسبوقة للقوة الناعمة، في رسالةً مفادها أن أمريكا لا تزال مركزاً لأهم حدث رياضي عالمي، وذلك بما تملكه من بنية تحتية، وإعلام، ورعاة، وشركات تكنولوجيا، وملاعب قادرة على استيعاب العالم بأسره.

وقد رصد معهد بيكر للسياسات العامة بجامعة رايس كيف تحوّلت هذه البطولة إلى أداةٍ في يد واشنطن لإعادة تعريف حضورها الدولي، في وقت تتشابك فيه ملفات الهجرة والأمن وصورة أمريكا أمام العالم.

غير أن هذه الصورة ذاتها تعكس تعقيداً لم تشهده النسخة التسعينية لكأس العالم، الذي شهد تخوفاً من الفيفا بشأن إسناد الاستضافة للولايات المتحدة بسبب عدم شعبية اللعبة وعدم الاكتراث بها.

لنجد أنفسنا اليوم أمام الاستقبال الأمريكي لملايين الزوار القادمين من كل أصقاع الأرض، في ظل آلة أمنية تعمل في الوقت ذاته بكامل طاقتها وقسوتها.

الفيفا تُحذر

الأمر الذي حدا بمنظمة العفو الدولية، إلى جانب أكثر من مائة وعشرين منظمة حقوقية، بأن تصدر تحذيراً رسمياً يُنبّه المشجعين والصحفيين والزوار إلى احتمال تعرّضهم للاحتجاز التعسفي أو الترحيل أو المراقبة المكثفة خلال فترة البطولة، مشيرةً إلى أن ذلك يجري في ظل سياسات هجرة تمييزية واعتقالات جماعية ومداهمات تنفّذها عناصر مسلحة ومقنّعة تابعة لوكالة الهجرة والجمارك الأمريكية (ICE).

كما طالبت المنظمة الفيفا صراحةً بالتحرك، محذّرةً من أن البطولة تخاطر بأن تتحوّل إلى منصة للقمع إن وُظِّف الحدث الرياضي لتكثيف إجراءات الهجرة والمراقبة والترهيب.

الصفقة الأكبر والأثر المتوقع

ومع ذلك، لا يمكن إغفال الحجم الهائل الذي تُقدّمه هذه النسخة من الناحية الرياضية والمالية، فمن المتوقع أن تتجاوز الفيفا حاجز الـ ثلاثة مليارات دولار من بيع التذاكر وحدها، فيما يتوقع ارتفاع إيرادات البث التلفزيوني 34% لتقترب من أربعة مليارات دولار، إلى جانب الجوائز المالية الإجمالية للمنتخبات البالغة 871 مليون دولار.

لكن هذه الأرقام تعود في معظمها إلى خزائن الفيفا والمنتخبات والأندية. أما المشجع العادي — الذي يُفترض أنه القلب النابض لأي كأس عالم — فيجد نفسه أمام البطولة الأكبر في التاريخ، بأسعار لم يشهد لها التاريخ مثيلاً.

مونديال 1994 كان نقطة انعطاف احتضنت فيها كرة القدم العالمية مفهوم السوكر، وامتزجت فيها ثقافتان لم تكونا يوماً متقاربتين، وأنجبت تلك النسخة الدوريات الاحترافية في الولايات المتحدة، لتؤسس جيلأ كاملأ من عشّاق اللعبة.

ويبقى السؤال الأصعب: هل سيترك مونديال 2026 في الذاكرة الجماعية أثراً أعمق مما تركته نسخة التسعينيات، التي بنت جسراً بين أمريكا والعالم؟ أم أن الضخامة هذه المرة ستكون حجاباً يحجب ما لا يريد أحد رؤيته؟.

Balatonfokajar: Marc Marquez delivered a dominant performance to win the sprint race at the Hungarian MotoGP on Saturday, converting his pole position into a commanding victory at the Balaton Park circuit.

The Spaniard, riding for Ducati, had earlier secured pole despite a dramatic qualifying session that saw him crash on his opening lap. However, he recovered quickly to top the times and carried that momentum into the sprint.

From the start, Marquez was in complete control and never looked under threat. He pulled away steadily from the field, at one point building a lead of more than two seconds over his closest rival.

KTM's Pedro Acosta finished second after briefly trying to stay in touch in the early laps, while Italy's Marco Bezzecchi, who leads the world championship standings, completed the podium in third for Aprilia.

"On Friday, I was trying to conserve energy, this morning I wanted to qualify on the front row, and for the sprint race my idea was to push hard while I was still fresh and then just survive at the end," said Marquez.

"The strategy worked better than expected, but tomorrow will be a longer race, so we'll see," said the 33-year-old. "I can't celebrate yet. Tomorrow will be more difficult."

It was a third sprint victory for the seven-time MotoGP world champion in a patchy season. He has not won a Sunday Grand Prix since the Misano GP in September last season.

Marquez's commanding display at the 4.08km Balaton Park circuit sends a strong signal as the MotoGP season continues, with the reigning champion looking firmly back in control ahead of Sunday's main race.
